First Aid
Is an essential part of being a leader in scouting.
The first response course covers the skills and knowledge necessary to enable adults to manage an incident and provide basic first aid
The minimum first aid required is First Response, but higher levels of qualification are needed if delivering first aid training or leading certain kinds of activities in remote environments.
Blended Delivery Model
The Blended Model combines a 2.5 hour eLearning with a three hour online session for the theory part of the training (10A). The practical validation (10B) is a short (15-20min) face-to-face session, which covers the practical elements of the life support training.
The eLearning can be accessed using the link below, and should be completed before the practical validation:
https://hampshire-scouts.thinkific.com/courses/firstresponsenationaloffer
Note: members can access the blended model regardless of the County having signed up and will be linked up to an online session, practical validation will still need to be accessed locally once other elements are complete.
External First Aid Training
Undertaking the HSE First Aid at work will provide some of the key skills required for doing first aid in Scouting, however, it doesn’t cover the full range of topics Scouting members are required to have covered for Scouting first aid, specifically CPR with Children.
All first aid training must cover the below criteria. The level of detail and time spent on each subject will vary, depending on whether it is a First Response or Full First Aid course.
- Principles of first aid and initial response (arriving and managing an incident)
- Initial response to a first aid situation
