District Cub Cooking Competition 2014

21 young cubs from all over Brighouse took part in the annual cooking competition, to select 2 teams to go forward to the West Yorkshire County Cubs Cooking competition in March.

7 teams from 5 groups stepped up to the challenge of cooking Chicken Noodle Vegetable Stir Fry, with Pancakes with a fruit coulis, with no pre-knowledge of the menu, and leaders only stepping in to ensure the safety when required. (lighting the gas stoves, moving boiling water pans etc), all this to be done from scratch within one hour, while being judged on hygiene, tidiness, teamwork, safety, presentation and taste.

After a tense and close count of the judges scores, and seven excellently prepared meals, with many leaders saying life will be easy on camp if the cubs can cook to this standard!

 

Rastrick St Matthews Team 7 “Cub Hub” team came out victorious and took away custom hand printed Aprons and certificates of achievements.

Hove Edge came away with second place, taking the other place for Brighouse in the County cooking competition.

we wish our two teams the very best for the county competition in a couple of weeks.
